My hometown, Kota Kinabalu (KK), is blessed with the fact that it is located just beside the sea, specifically the South China Sea. When you’re bored with the countless of malls, cinemas, bars, clubs, restaurants and well, your house, you know you can always count on that one getaway spot, the beach.
Though Tanjung Aru is the nearest beach to KK, thus convenient for most of us who live in or near the city, I would still very much prefer to travel half an hour away to Karambunai beach. It is beautiful, the sand is white, the sea is blue and the sunset is incredible! I could spend hours and hours there if it wasn’t for those pesky insects!
I recently brought my boyfriend there when he was in town for the holidays. Being a true Californian-bred boy who loves beaches, it is pretty clear that he feels right at home there despite being originally and living in busy KL.

Look at that beautiful sky! Although the sunset cannot be seen fully, the sky itself is enough to paint a beautiful sunset!
