Anyone who knows me (or rather, have me on Facebook) knows that I have this huge love for recipes and cooking my own meals. Ever since I moved to good all KL to lead the famed ‘student life’, I try my very best to not eat outside despite it being the most easiest solution to my belly.

I left home with little knowledge on cooking. All I know was boiling stuff, frying eggs and sausages, cooking rice and depending on the ever handy canned food, which, mind you, is not a healthy choice because of preservatives in them. So it’s safe to say that I do not know much about cooking. I know the basics, but it gets boring if you keep eating the same meal over and over again.

So over time, I get so into finding new recipes to cook. I’m glad I did because growing up, even though mom would always tell me to help her in the kitchen so that I would “know a thing or two about cooking”, I was so afraid that I would grow up to be one of those mothers who do not know how to cook and constantly depend on eating outside. It’s not a bad thing, but I do fancy the thought of growing up knowing what home-cooked meals look like.

First few meals that I cooked when I first arrived in KL.

But anyway, I forced myself to cook when I moved to KL. It started off with normal stuff like maggie goreng with eggs and then slowly to something bigger, like vegetables. I started with boiling vegetables first, and then ‘upgraded’ to actually cooking vegetable and adding more ‘big’ stuff like seasoning it with salt.

Then it was finally the tasting.

See, when you put so much work into cooking something, you barely notice the taste because you’re too consumed with making sure that it’s cooked properly and eatable. So when a friend tasted my food and said that it does not have any ‘taste’, I was so confused and depressed.

“Add a bit more salt and maybe some pepper. Oh, it’s best if you could add in some shallots and onions as well. Next time, experiment with ginger too!” She says.

Man, this is hard work!

One of my more ‘luxurious’ meals; carrot with eggs, sardine mixed with chopped onion and lime juice and fresh strawberries!

I constantly bug my mom and later, my aunt on giving me easy recipes for a basic meal. They would give me happily which I am thankful for. Mom would send me emails on recipes while my aunt would tag pictures of food that she made and thinks that I should give it a try too.

Now, even if it’s a good thing that they give me recipes, me going home meant that I were to put my ‘skills’ to the test with mom wanting me to constantly cook despite me wanting to taste her cooking instead. Meh!

Mom gave me the best present the other day. It was like Christmas for me!

After a good one year plus of living here, I am pretty happy to say that I became more experimental with my meals. I’ve cooked spaghetti, herbal chicken soup, ayam masak kicap, honey chicken etc etc… All with the help of recipes from family and packets from Maggi and various other brands I forgot :P

I still dislike the hard work of cooking my own meals, but the end product is always worth celebrating!

Tiger Lilly and Mushroom Soup. I added ‘real’ mushrooms and eggs to yummify it. :P

The packet that I used for the soup. This helps a lot!

Cabbage mixed with carrots and honey chicken (the ‘honey’ bit came from the packet too).

When searching for a recipe on cooking shrimp today (yes, I’ve upgraded myself yet again to seafood!), I stumbled on a very exciting website called Rasa Malaysia.

But don’t let that disappoint you if you’re looking for more non-Malaysian recipes because there are a compilation of meals from various other countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Vietnam etc etc… It’s awesome! And to top if of, there are also titles such as ‘Eating Light‘ and ‘30-Minute Meals‘ to name a few.

The fact that they are Asian cuisines, you can most definitely be sure that you’ll be able to find ingredients here :)

And they’re all relatively easy to do. The easy part is the availability of ingredients, whether they’re easy to cookor not, that is yet to be known, hence the ‘relatively’ part. Haha!

But anyway, here are some fab meals from the website!

Hope I didn’t make you too hungry looking at the pictures! Lol!

Let me know if you’ll try the meals on the website, I know I will!!

I love D.I.Y. websites. I’m not sure whether I’m attracted to the fact that you can make things by yourself and it’s super easy, or the fact that they’re super pretty to look at – all those pictures and stuff. But I do know that I am insanely jealous at all these insanely creative people! :P

I found this awesome website while busy stumbling upon sites. It has been awhile since I browse the Internet through stumble upon and I was so happy to instantly fall in love with the first website I was introduced to.

It’s called Craft Gawker.

It is literally a site where you can find tons of D.I.Y. stuff and how-to’s and actually ‘favourite’ them for future reference! I was already thinking whether I should save the websites to the D.I.Y.s that I like, but when I saw that Craft Gawker is a community-based website where you can sign in as a member and favourite any D.I.Y. stuff, I was overjoyed.

Here are some of my favourite D.I.Y.s that I saw from the website.

Here are a few more awesome DIYs.

- Anyone fancies a fork bracelet?

- Glitter doesn’t only work on papers these days! Heard of glitter shoes?

- Buttons are great fun to play around with, especially when it involves sticking on places!

Day 8: A place you’ve travelled to

This picture was taken two years ago in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I enjoyed Vietnam a lot. Probably because it was so different from Malaysia, despite it being a part of the Asian continent.

I always thought that countries in Asia are all the same, so I didn’t think that it was worth our time to explore them. I guess that’s why Asians prefer to travel in Western countries and those from the West in turn, come here. But after Vietnam and Korea though, I pretty much realized that they are so different from Malaysia and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to travel there.

Vietnam is so rich with culture and history. I didn’t know much about Vietnam before going there and even when I was there, I did the whole touristy thing despite having family who know the place well, like any local would.

I would love to go back there again and explore the place fully, especially since I did a lot of research on Vietnam and its history for my assignment and bring a very good camera with me to capture images there.

I’m currently doing a 30-day blog challenge in my ‘somewhat’ personal blog. Go there and read about more challenges :)

Today is the day, the day of Bersih. Even though it would officially start in less than 12 hours (it’s 2.07am now), people have already gathered in Kuala Lumpur since 11pm or so. It’s crazy, but it’s so beautiful at the same time.

This post is not about Bersih though. I’m here to share a video about Malaysia and its beauty despite all the ugly that has surrounded us lately. Minus Bersih of course.

But anyway, enjoy the video. It is about the journey of two tourists who came to Malaysia, video by Javi Devitt. Such a wonderful video.

Here the video link.

Right now, my brain and my heart are singing the notes to one song. Usually these two do not get along, but after reading and watching the latest ‘fad’ today, I am unanimous in my believe that we are in need of a giant slap in the face. Before I go on with my point (believe me I will get there) let’s backtrack a little.

Growing up, my dad always used to say to me when I wasted food; “you don’t know how lucky you are, there are starving children in Africa/ India” and then there are those aid campaigns with pictures of skeletal-looking children and women with flies on their face. We come across the plight of those unfortunate ones so often that we start to feel indifferent, nonchalant and most times just blasaie.

The common train of thought is, “Yeah, yeah, you are from Africa, we know the people there starve and die,” and then we move on to our first world bitching of getting stuck in traffic, having to wait in line just to get a cheeseburger, that guy who had his beer goggles on when he said he loved you but hasn’t called you back… Etc etc.

Image Source:Kony 2012 Isn’t Perfect, But At Least We’re Talking About Child Abuse

On the other spectrum of things, there are first worldians that actually feel like they need to do something instead of bitching about the new iPad not being quick enough. One such group of first worldians created a campaign called Kony 2012. So just like every bored Facebooker out there, I start seeing his name appear with every blink of an eye, it’s as if they discovered a new STD.

KONY who in gay hell are you?? They say ask and you shall receive, and boy did I find out more then I cared too.

This sorry ass vermin that does not deserve to even breathe the same air we do ‘Joseph Kony‘ had abducted tens of thousands of children into his army and sex slavery! Is this shocking? Not really right we live in a place where incest is an inside joke we make as a form of racism. But watching the video made me cry. As anyone with a soul would. I dare YOU to watch it and not cry.

Now my point (see I told you I’d get there), the brains behind the Kony 2012 campaign are getting severely critisized with speculations of spending the donations made to their charity on personal travels and making bad judgement towards one man without factoring all other angles and information. Personally what affects me most, is the fact that there are a handfull of people who choose to do something about the suffering we all see and hear, instead of sitting on their asses and gorging on KFC. In return, they get slammed.

Joseph Kony

I’m going to be honest. I have no plans in donating any $$ into this organization, but I’m grateful for what their doing because they have helped bring awarness towards the things that matters most and that is faith in humanity. Like this famous former train wreck Britney said “Why don’t you do something“, they’re doing something! If it means they’re using the latest trends to get in your face and make this Joseph Kony guy as famous as Michael Jackson, then be it. We usually make a big deal about a news when it’s hot from the oven.

People get tortured, raped and murdered all the time and we tsk tsk our ways to paying our credit card bills and forget about these victims after a week. I’m glad that that this campaign is higlighting and has pledged to keep reminding us of the horror and the atrocities these children had to go through under this disgusting creature’s ruling because it has managed to drag me back to earth and actually be grateful for all intense and purpose, that although I come from a place that is less then perfect, the fact that I have many choices in my life, I have been cocky enough to believe that it’s a right when there are people out there who actually can’t afford that luxury.

1. My blog is not famous. And……….. Yeah, that’s pretty much it.

2. This is not a fan page. It’s a page where I put new post updates so that people would know that my blog is updated anddddddd it’s where I put up surveys for people to answer if they want to. Surveys are meant to be featured in an upcoming blog post.

I Was a Teenage Activist

I have always been interested in activism ever since I was young. It’s the whole idea of advocating for something you believe in and actually going all out for it that interests me. What would catch my attention more when it comes to activism is the people behind it; especially if you are a young female who is unafraid to speak out.

Seeing other young activist that is of my own age and gender pretty much lets me know that I can be an activist as well, that I can advocate for something I believe in. Which is why this blog was created, to advocate for self appreciation and acceptance and anything that I think is important for young people today.

Anyway, here’s a very interesting blog post that I found out and loved.

Just because we don’t have Buffy (the show) any more, doesn’t mean Angel can’t do shit any more. Here’s a blog where Angel does some pretty cool stuff.

Well, somewhat cool.
