LET IT BE KNOWN.
Yes, it is YOUR Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Myspace (do people go there these days?), [insert other social networking sites here]…
Yes, you have every right to post whatever you want to post.
Yes, nobody can be angry with you for posting anything because it’s none of their business.
The personal is not the personal any more. The personal is public and everything we consider personal, everything that we consider is ours… Well, it’s not. In fact, we have to be careful with the ‘personal’ that we show because there is such thing as online etiquette.
Hah! I know right? ONLINE FUCKING ETIQUETTE? WHAT.
You don’t hear about these things back in the day. It’s stupid to even think about it! They don’t matter. But now they do. They exist. We don’t have to learn about them because there are some things that you just understand without having to hear someone actually saying it.
Say, in the real world, wouldn’t it be weird to see someone walking around naked? Wouldn’t it be weird to see someone talking to themselves and laughing by themselves? Wouldn’t it be weird to see someone walking around without their bra on even though us girls know that it’s soooooooooo good to let these babies run freeeeee?
Why don’t we do this? Why don’t we just walk around naked or braless; letting our boobs fly around everywhere?
I know why! Because at the back of our heads, we know that it’s ‘INDECENT’. We know that there is a certain limit to what we can do or can’t do in public.
It’s the same thing as Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter or whatever. Your personal interest (to post or say whatever it is that you want) cannot be practised freely any more because there are people around your account who will read and find it inappropriate.
Why do you think that people who post naked pictures of themselves everywhere else (especially on blogs) do not post naked pictures of themselves on their personal Facebook accounts when they know for a fact that everyone would LOVE to see it because it’s just so fucking hot?
Why do you think that you’d get so fucking hurt when someone deletes you off of Facebook and instantly, you have it in your mind that they do not want to be friends with you any more?
Why do you get so fucking annoying when people update their status over and over again?
Online etiquettes, they exist! And it’s basic social networking 101 stuff!
I like how some people say that they don’t care what anyone thinks, they’re just going to post whatever shit they want because it is THEIR Facebook. REALLY NOWWWW?
Everyone cares about what other people think, especially when it comes to their idealized online selves. If they don’t, these people wouldn’t be so excited when reading comments and seeing ‘likes’ by people. Or they wouldn’t get so caught up with trying to post as many ‘I-AM-SO-FUN’ photos of themselves for people to see.
(This does not apply to everyone though, just to the 99% of human beings – teenagers to 30’s? – in the world with accounts on social networking sites)
My point is… You cannot apply the whole, “It’s MY shit, so I post WHATEVER I want” thing any more because it doesn’t work that way. It’s fucking 2012, nobody thinks like a pre-FB/TWITTER/TUMBLR any more!
So EXCUSE ME if I don’t like your
- Dead people photos
- Fucking mushy posts to your boo
- Hate comments to some person you clearly do not want to specify since they’re in your friend/follow list
- ‘Earn money from Facebook!’ stuff
- …and you know, everything else that is just so wrong and should be kept in your own brains
I rest my
